Two kinds of 'if': the real one (if it rains, I stay home) and the hypothetical one (if I were rich, I'd travel). Slovene marks the difference clearly — the second uses bi. About seven minutes.

A real condition (it might well happen): če + present, main clause present or future — Če imam čas, pridem. (If I have time, I'll come.) A hypothetical/unreal one (imagining): bi + the l-participle in BOTH clauses — Če bi imel čas, bi prišel. (If I had time, I would come.) bi never changes; the participle agrees with the subject: bi imel (m) / bi imela (f). On its own, bi + participle = English 'would': Kaj bi naredil? (What would you do?)
