The genitive (rodilnik) turns up everywhere: after a negative (nimam, ni — I don't have, there isn't), after brez (without), in quantities (kozarec vode = a glass of water), and wherever English says of. The endings: feminine -a → -e (hiša → hiše), masculine + -a (ključ → ključa), neuter + -a (okno → okna).
