the conditional — bi + the participle
To be polite, to dream, to ask for things gently — you need the conditional. The good news: it's the simplest structure in the language, because the key word never changes. Pick the form, then drill. About six minutes.

would & would like
· pogojnikbi + the -l participle — and bi never changes
The conditional (pogojnik) means would — and it's how you ask for things politely. The recipe is just bi + the -l participle (the same one you learnt for the past). Best of all, bi never changes for person: jaz bi, ti bi, on bi, mi bi. Only the participle still agrees with gender: bi govoril (m), bi govorila (f). The phrase you'll use most: rad / rada bi = 'I would like' — Rad bi kavo.
Rad bi kavo.I'd like a coffee. (m)rad bi = I'd like
Bi mi pomagal?Would you help me?bi + participle
Rada bi šla domov.I'd like to go home. (f)participle agrees
