verb aspect — the two halves of every verb

This is the idea that makes Slavic verbs tick. Almost every Slovene verb comes as a pair: one for an action in progress or repeated, one for an action completed. Same meaning, different angle. Pick the right one for the context, then drill. About seven minutes.

Most Slovene verbs come in an aspect pair: an imperfective (ongoing, repeated, habitual) and a perfective (completed, one whole event). For example pisati (to be writing) ↔ napisati (to write/finish). The perfective is often the imperfective plus a prefix (na-, s-, pre-, po-). Key consequence: the perfective has no real present — its present-tense form points to the future. So zdaj pišem (I'm writing now) but jutri napišem (tomorrow I'll write it).
