Every Slovene noun has a gender — moški spol (masculine), ženski spol (feminine) or srednji spol (neuter). It usually shows in the ending: a bare consonant is mostly masculine (učitelj), -a mostly feminine (učiteljica), -o/-e mostly neuter (okno). The verb biti ('to be') is irregular — learn the singular by heart. And 'my' agrees with the gender: moj (m) · moja (f) · moje (n).
