When you count five or more — or say veliko (many), nekaj (a few), koliko (how many) — Slovene switches the noun to the genitive plural. Its signature is the bare stem: feminine and neuter usually take a zero ending (hiša → pet hiš, okno → pet oken), while masculine adds -ov / -ev (stol → pet stolov). So the count climbs: ena hiša (1) · dve hiši (2) · tri hiše (3–4) · pet hiš (5+).
