Older Slovenian literature uses forms you won't hear today — dropped vowels marked with an apostrophe, poetic short words, archaic vocabulary. You don't produce these, but recognising them unlocks the classics. About six minutes.

Classic Slovene verse (19th century) shortens words for rhythm, marking the dropped vowel with an apostrophe: dočakat' (dočakati), al' (ali). It also uses archaic vocabulary now rare in speech. You won't write like this, but you'll meet it in the great writers — so it's worth being able to decode.
