Every Slovene noun has a gender: moški (m), ženski (ž) or srednji (s) — usually readable from the ending (consonant → m, -a → ž, -o/-e → s). The 1. sklon (imenovalnik) is the dictionary form, used for the subject. The verb biti (to be) is your first workhorse: sem, si, je, smo, ste, so.
