the dual · dvojina
the famous Slovene form for exactly two
Slovene is one of the only languages alive with a true dual — a special form for exactly two of something. So you count in three numbers, not two. This is the signature of the language. Learn the rule, practise it, drill the words. About six minutes.

· dvojinaone, two, many — a separate form for exactly two
Most languages have singular and plural. Slovene has three numbers: ednina (1), dvojina (2 — the dual), and množina (3+). The dual is a living, everyday form — and even the word for 'two' changes with gender: dva (masculine), dve (feminine / neuter). The nominative dual endings: feminine -a → -i (roka → dve roki), masculine + -a (stol → dva stola), neuter -o → -i (okno → dve okni). Body parts that come in pairs — roki, nogi — are the most natural place to feel it.
